I LOVE JAPAN ❤ 日本の今を伝えたい! 夏木陽介さんを訪ねて Visiting Yoshuke Natsuki

Standard

On the afternoon of September 5, the staff of Blossoming Japan was privileged to have lunch with Toho actor Yosuke Natsuki at an Italian restaurant near his office in Tokyo.

If you’re wondering who Yosuke Natsuki is, you need to do some homework! Natsuki-san was a major star at Toho Studios in the 1950s and ’60s and still works in the entertainment business. His movies have been shown all over the world, particularly Yojimbo (1961), directed by the acclaimed Akira Kurosawa, as well as his entries in the giant monster movie genre, particularly Dogora the Space Monster (1964), Ghidrah the Three-Headed Monster (1964), and Godzilla 1985 (1984).

Natsuki-san has worked with the best in the movie and TV industry in Japan and remains a popular figure in many genres. Having starred in war films, comedies, action films, monster movies, and dramas, he’s done it all!

At the lunch, we gave Natsuki-san a poster for the Shacho series comedy Salaryman Chushingura (1960), in which he co-stars with Toho heavyweights like Akira Takarada, Keiju Kobayashi, Hisaya Morishige, and others. He was very pleased to receive it.

We also gave him a copy of the latest issue of G-FAN magazine in which he is interviewed at length about his career. If you ever wanted to find out more about this fixture in Japanese media, this is definitely the place to start! It’s all contained in G-FAN #107, available for sale at G-FAN.com. (End of commercial.)

Following the meal, we headed to Natsuki-san’s office to continue the conversation over some tea and Japanese sweets. Natsuki-san is a very open and generous fellow, and we all were honored to spend so much time in his company. Oftentimes Japanese actors are amazed by the attention they receive by Western fans. I don’t think most actors and actresses in Japan realize how accessible some of their films are in the United States. Some of these performers truly are international stars — they just don’t know it yet!

It was a great afternoon, spent in the company of a wonderful gentleman. We always enjoy our meetings with Natsuki-san hope many more will be coming in the near future.watch this blog for further updates, but be sure to buy your copy of G-FAN #107 today!
